Show Your Colors and Spread Your Feathers!
Peacocks were evident as far back as the early Egyptian times. According to animal totem symbolism, peacocks represent:
• our inner and outer aspects of beauty
• inner confidence
• dignity
• air of confidence
• birth, death and rebirth
• associated with the Sun God Ra
(Sun associated with the third chakra our power center)
• The white peacock is considered sacred and is associated with the Christed-Heart of purity
Last fall, during my seasonal change of pillows on my sofa, I realized I was tired of the same old fall pillows. I wanted something new and bright. As I shopped around it seemed like turquoise, peacock feathers, peacock pillows and peacock candles were everywhere. So I bought into the peacock craze. Now, I can’t say I have always loved peacocks.
In one of the houses we lived in, we didn’t often see the beauty of these birds, but, rather, were the recipients of their loud voices. Having said that, though, I do remember enjoying visits to a park where many peacocks lived and where they would strut and fan their feathers. One day, I was stuck with awe when I saw a white peacock among the beautiful iridescent colored feathered peacocks. There was just something majestic, elegant and magnificent about this peacock, strutting their feathers for all to see.
So why was I drawn to peacock pillows years later? I believe it was because I was also influenced by one of my favorite children’s songs The Peacock Walk ~Vanessa and the Jumping Monkeys.
This song is about a boy and a girl who love to do the peacock walk. The boy loves to go to the zoo and act like the animals do. But his favorite thing to do is follow the peacocks and do the “peacock walk”. In the song. the girl dresses like a peacock with feathers in her hair, wears a tutu to the park, to school and to the zoo where she and the boy do the peacock walk. As the song continues:
“One by one people came and gathered at the zoo saying, “Hey check out that boy and girl, I wanna try it too. They kicked their feet and they stretched their necks, way high up to the sky. Now there’s a parade of people passing by. Day by day the word began to spread around the world about this new dance craze by this little boy and girl. Folks all over the world are striking a pose and doing it the peacock way-doing the peacock walk.”
No, it wasn’t the song…. Well, maybe it was.
As I listened to words again, I loved that little boy and girl dared to be themselves and strut their stuff and give the message it’s okay to be you. How awesome was it that people all over the world started to do the peacock walk following the freedom and wisdom of children? People started to strut their stuff doing the peacock walk in their own way. As I looked into the symbolism of peacocks I realized why both the pillows and the song had such a draw for me.
Once again, as I take out the peacock pillows, I’m reminded that this is the time with the shift in energy of “strutting our stuff” not with arrogance (which is the shadow side of peacock symbolism), but just being our tremendously gifted selves.
In the last blog, 7 Non Linear Steps to Heaven, Step 5 was “Let your Radiant Light Grow Brighter”. Be yourself. Don’t abandon yourself to other’s expectations or unreasonable expectations of your own. People are uplifted when you are Being YOU!
I believe the messages are coming loud and clear now.
- Remember to be confident in yourself and speak your truth, with respect, even if it’s difficult.
- Honor your gifts.
- Accept that none of us are perfect and that is perfect.
- It’s okay to be who you are on the inside with the outside world
Even peacocks with their awe-inspiring beauty have a loud and ear splitting voice. You don’t think the peacock is any less beautiful because of their voice do you? Of course not!
As a very wise friend of mine says, “You are an important piece of the universal puzzle, with out you the puzzle isn’t complete. It’s more than important – it’s vital – to your wellbeing:
• to feel your inner confidence of the peacock in your core
• to breath into your power center (third chakra)
• to let go of what others may think when you speak your truth
• to let go of being understood by others
• to let go any thoughts of being less than (you are only less than in your own mind)
• to breath into your heart the infinite with in to guide you
Post and let us know how you are doing on your peacock walk,
Bonnie
P.S. Bubble Ride by Vanesa and the Jumping Monkeys is a really fun CD for kids and adults alike. You can get the CD or mp3.
P.P.S. There is a very palatable powerful energy of change calling to us to evolve and to BE our truly authentic God Selves- to walk with the dignity and beauty of being our peacock selves. For it’s when we become who we truly are the outside world will change. Looking to feel that deep Soul connected place within to live with more Grace in your life?
